Career Opportunities Overview
Finding a hospitalist position in today’s marketplace can be like navigating through a minefield. Hospital medicine is the fastest-growing medical specialty in the US. Today there are approximately 20,000 hospitalist physicians nationwide. This number is expected to exceed 30,000 by the end of the decade.

The demand for qualified hospitalists has never been higher. The robust expansion of the hospitalist specialty has spawned the growth of many new hospitalist companies offering a variety of hospitalist practice models and schedule options. That makes it even more challenging for physicians to make well-informed and important career decisions.

PrimeDoc hospitalists have enjoyed a consistent and proven private-practice model since the opening of our first practice in 1997. In PrimeDoc private practices, physicians are included in the decision-making and also play active roles in charting the development and direction of their individual practices.

PrimeDoc is one of the most established and experienced hospitalist companies in the United States. Our physician leadership has more than 30 years of clinical, hands-on, and executive-level hospital leadership experience. We are seeking career-minded, board-certified/eligible primary care physicians with an emphasis on inpatient care to join established or developing hospitalist programs.

Top 10 Reasons Why a Career With PrimeDoc May Be Ideal for You

Employment as a hospitalist with PrimeDoc has many benefits:

  1. A variety of attractive locations. Many PrimeDoc locations are in, or within, an easy drive of the fastest growing areas in the country - places that offer a high quality of living.
  2. A physician-built company with a physician owned and managed culture. Physicians manage physicians at PrimeDoc locations. Our professional physician employees enjoy the advantages of a private-practice setting while still having the dedicated support of an experienced management office for all business-related functions.
  3. Experience and stability. Founded in 1997, PrimeDoc has established and managed hospitalist programs for more than a decade. Our contracts are physician managed, and our physician leaders are experienced in clinical internal medicine and in all areas of hospital operations. Individual hospitalist programs are developed and managed by experienced physician-executives and staffed with a full-time, on-site Clinical Medical Director. All practice management functions and back-office business functions are centralized and carried out through PrimeDoc Management Services, Inc. All PrimeDoc hospitalist practices are also subsidized with guaranteed stipends through our hospitalist services contracts.
  4. A democratic system. All decisions are made in the best interest of our physicians by our physician leaders and Clinical Directors. Each group is autonomous and functions as a freestanding private medical practice with the freedom and flexibility to make decisions that are best suited for the individual practice.
  5. Exciting work environments. With approximately 100 physicians, PrimeDoc is large enough to be a recognized leader in the hospitalist movement, yet small enough to understand the needs of our individual physicians and practices. We pride ourselves on creating a professional, corporate, and yet personal, environment.

PrimeDoc believes in controlled growth. We truly value - and our model rewards - the contributions made by each physician. PrimeDoc physicians are well-supported with dedicated management and on-site administrative and clinical support. In addition, physicians utilize state-of-the-art charge capture technology. Typical physician responsibilities include managing adult inpatients in hospitals from admission through the phases of acute illness to discharge.
  6. Growth opportunities. PrimeDoc is continuously evaluating and considering new hospital client locations. Our expansion will create additional clinical and leadership positions internally in our new regions.
  7. Excellent earnings potential. According to The Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) 2007-2008 Survey, hospitalists in our region are compensated higher than in any other region in the U.S. PrimeDoc hospitalists enjoy a compensation formula that is a combination of a fixed base and a very aggressive production incentive, with low overhead.
  8. Pre-tax benefits programs. Physicians are officially employees of PrimeDoc; however, our financial policies have been designed to allow our physicians many of the freedoms of independent contractors. The company's programs have been structured within our corporate model to provide PrimeDoc professional employees with the greatest tax savings. Our programs include:
    • Flexible group benefit plans for health insurance
    • Dependent-care assistance
    • Business expense reimbursements
  9. Blocked scheduling for work-life balance. Hospitalists are mobile physicians and work in fast-paced environments. Our schedules are designed to offer our physicians a comfortable balance between a rewarding career as a hospitalist and an excellent quality of life. Predictable schedules allow our physicians to better plan their lives and family time. PrimeDoc hospitalists are not on-call, not in-house, and this also promotes more flexibility in their work schedules.

Annualized, each PrimeDoc hospitalist physician is off for 20 weeks per year with the five-physician rotation. While many programs implement a 7-on, 7-off rotation, each PrimeDoc practice has the flexibility and freedom to modify their schedules to fit the needs of their practice and client hospital facility. The focus is creating a schedule that is predictable and allows for a good work-life balance.
  10. Flexible staffing with multiple employment options. We are committed to offering a flexible staffing model. Not every physician has a desire to work full time. That's why at PrimeDoc we have reengineered the hospitalist staffing model to offer our physicians a variety of employment options, including Full-time, Part-time, Nocturnalist, Job-Share, PRN and Internal PrimeDoc Locum.
